The rapid spread of dry, highly flammable grasses not only crowd out native species but also create dangerous fuel loads in an area known for its strong, unpredictable winds—a combination that dramatically increases wildfire risk. To help address this problem safely and sustainably, we introduced 16 cows to graze across our landscape.

On June 14, 2025, we hosted a fun, educational Monarch Migration event. Families learned about monarchs, native milkweed, and habitat protection. Attendees enjoyed displays, planting demos, and community science projects that support monarch conservation.

On July 19, 2025, we hosted our first Moth Night at Portal Ridge Wildlife Preserve, in partnership with the San Gabriel Mountains CNPS chapter. Attendees of all ages enjoyed an evening of lightsheeting, photography, and learning about nocturnal insects.

On November 15th, 2023 the California Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) awarded this generous grant to bolster THC’s tortoise conservation efforts in the Western Mojave Desert.
