Volunteer Positions

Stewardship and Restoration Team Member:

This team is contacted as needed. Available at Puma and Portal Preserves

This team assists with habitat restoration and property clean-up and maintenance. Projects include installing vertical mulch, fencing, and signage; trail work; invasive weed removal projects, planting native plant species and seeds, and general care of Conservancy land. These activities can be strenuous, but very rewarding. These are the earth-movers!

Community Scientist

Ongoing roles and contacted for BioBlitzes. Available at Puma and Portal

This team plays an important role in documenting the changes on the Conservancy lands over time. This is especially important in order to track seasonal and yearly changes, before and after fires, and to understand changes due to climate change. The tasks would include collecting data via iNaturalist, photo-documentation, and assisting with research projects as they arise. The Conservancy provides training to help build the skills needed for these volunteer activities including plant identification, wildlife tracking, and more.

Volunteer Ranger

Ongoing roles and contacted as needed for events. Puma Canyon Only.

Our volunteer ranger team plans and leads hikes, tours, special programs and other activities on the Reserve with Conservancy staff. They serve as both a natural history interpreter/instructor and safety monitor by reporting any safety concerns to staff. Rangers introduce Transition Habitat Conservancy to new visitors, share the area with participants and educate those who wish to learn more about the Reserve. Our volunteer ranger positions require a serious commitment and a certain level of basic and advanced training that THC would help provide.

Community Outreach Team

Contacted as needed. Available at Puma and Portal Preserves

This team is focused on helping spread the word about Transition Habitat Conservancy and the many ways to support, join and volunteer. It’s a great way to meet new people and share our mission of protecting critical habitat. It also involves providing assistance with our events including; preparations, helping with registration, parking, hospitality, set-up, breakdown, and collecting event donations or gathering supplies. Events and outreach typically occur on the weekends and are a great way to meet new people, share our mission, and get people excited about conservation!

Administrative Team

Contacted as needed. Available at Puma Canyon for physical work, but the work pertains to all of the conservancy.

This team helps with filing, scanning, data entry, mailings and answering phones. This is the perfect team to join if you prefer working indoors on light, detail-oriented, administrative projects.
