Using Prescribed Fire to Safeguard the Western Joshua Tree from Wildfire

With the help of a fuel management grant and the expertise of the Los Angeles County prescribed Burn Association, Transition Habitat Conservancy is hitting the ground running this year to protect the Western Joshua Tree from wildfire.

We have the looming threats of catastrophic wildfire and invasive plant species in the Mojave Desert, which threaten the survival of the Joshua Tree. In the Antelope Valley, the far western portion of the Mojave, we are utilizing every tool in the land management toolbox to protect the trees.

Pile burns are helping us accomplish this in a big way.

By removing the invasive fuel sources, we are protecting the trees, fostering community, and it's restoring our natural relationship with fire in Southern California.
