Plant a Tree! A Joshua Tree

  • Portal Ridge Wildlife Preserve (map)

In 2020, Portal Ridge Wildlife Preserve burned in the Lake Fire. This fire started on the other side of the Angeles National Forest and made its way completely over the mountain to our Preserve. Many acres of prime Joshua tree woodland burned, BUT it has been making a comeback due to the rain and snow we have received over the last 2 years. To help the woodland recover, Transition Habitat Conservancy has 1,000 sprouts in the greenhouse that are ready to be planted on the land.

Portal Ridge Wildlife Preserve is just under 5,000 acres, open to the public for hiking and equestrian use, and home to fields of poppies in the spring, mountain lions, badgers, and the state-protected Swainson's hawk and Western Joshua tree, and more! Our Preserve connects other protected lands such as California State Parks (Poppy Reserve and Ripley Desert Woodland), as well as the Angeles National Forest. We bridge the gap of protected lands across the Western Antelope Valley.

Come out to enjoy the day and the Preserve, and help plant and water some brand new baby Joshua tree sprouts!
