Bloom - Emily Dickinson

Drone video of a Poppy bloom on THC’s Portal Ridge Wildlife Preserve

Our desert is turning green(ish) and flowers are already beginning to open up thanks to the abundant rainfall this winter. It is a truly magical time to explore the Mojave.

While I fail to find the right words to describe this beauty, I believe that Emily Dickinson succeeded with her poetry. Please enjoy this poem from the public domain, and let us know what your favorite flower is!

Bloom — is Result — to meet a Flower
And casually glance
Would cause one scarcely to suspect
The minor Circumstance
Assisting in the Bright Affair
So intricately done
Then offered as a Butterfly
To the Meridian —
To pack the Bud — oppose the Worm —
Obtain its right of Dew —
Adjust the Heat — elude the Wind —
Escape the prowling Bee
Great Nature not to disappoint
Awaiting Her that Day —
To be a Flower, is profound
Responsibility —
