The Transition Habitat Conservancy, with plans to somehow raise enough money to purchase 80 acres in Pinon Hills, has been encouraged by several agencies, including the Department of Fish and Game and The Nature Conservancy , to expand the grant application to make it possible to purchase 987 acres - Sand Canyon and the corridor to Sheep Creek Wash. The Wildlife Conservation Boards Land Acquisition Spending Summary 200-2005 shows that San Bernardino County is not receiving any part of what neighboring counties receive for land acquisition. Supporters of Transition Habitat Conservancy (THC) attended a fundraising dinner on June 17 at the Red Mango Grill in Phelan. In addition to the cool ambiance and good food, guests were impressed with the recent accomplishments of the organization. President Jill Bays reported that software grants and assistance received from Microsoft and Google Earth would help to upgrade computers donated by Edison Company. Press clipping

There are dedicated individuals in our midst who are working hard to preserve open space and natural wildlife habitats along the San Gabriel Mountain/Mojave Desert boundary. They are banded together in an organization called the Transition Habitat Conservancy to accomplish that goal. Press clipping
