12,000 Years of History in the Antelope Valley

  • 1681 Hillview Road Pinon Hills, CA, 92372 United States (map)

Transition Habitat is excited to host Dr. Bruce Love to present on the history and indigenous claim to the Antelope Valley, the westernmost region of the Mojave Desert.

Dr. Bruce Love (UCLA 1986) is a practicing archaeologist and anthropologist with forty years of experience in the Antelope Valley and Southern California.

In his own words: β€œThe focus of my talk is the great time depth of Native American occupation of the Antelope Valley, from more than 12,000 years ago to the present, with no break. Our Native allies tell us they have been here since the beginning of time and that the archaeologists are just now beginning to prove it. When I started here in the '80s, the oldest sites were 2,000 years old. Now they are 12,000 years old, and there is virtually nowhere that doesn't show evidence of past occupation. This one-hour slideshow takes us to archaeological sites throughout the Antelope Valley and also introduces the audience to the living descendants who rightfully claim unbroken historical descent from the earliest peoples.”
